Plans, organizes and assists in aspects of the front desk/scheduling team.� Serves as a liaison between consumers (staff, patients, healthcare professionals and general public) and advocates the patients’ needs.� Performs duties required to assist physicians in the examination and treatment of patients, such as preparing and maintaining exam rooms, preparing charts and x-rays, obtaining reports and records, performing patient and family education.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedules diagnostic procedures, coordinating schedule with physician, patient and other offices.
Obtains insurance information from patients and counsels alternative ways for financial assistance.
Assists staff with sending out reminder cards and other scheduling duties.
Assists Medical Assistants to ensure appropriate staffing.
Functions as an assistant to physicians in preparation of office hours, work up charts, obtain x-rays, prepare rooms, monitor physician schedule and recommends changes.
Directs patient flow, assists with special procedures, instructs patients including pre-operative and post-operative teaching.� Completes requisitions.
Triages emergent calls and directs to the appropriate physician for care in a timely manner.
Acts as a general liaison between doctor and patient.� Returns all physician calls, i.e. test results, questions, scheduling appointments.
Schedules surgeries and diagnostic procedures, coordinating schedule with physician, patient and OR.� Coordinates physical therapy, pre-operative testing and coordination or services with primary physician.
Assists with physician research, to include data collection, arranging for special patient appointments to retrieve necessary data, compiling databases.
Assists physicians at various facilities, precertify diagnostic procedures, surgeries and physical therapies, obtaining necessary referral forms.
Assists in billing for durable medical equipment by completing appropriate paperwork at time of dispersal to patient.
Completes all disability, handicap parking and other patient related paperwork.
Monitors supply inventory, assuring adequate supplies, equipment/garments available and comply with regulations.
High school diploma or GED; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Must be able to show proof of Medical Assistant registration/certification or complete Medical Assistant registration/certification within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.).
Interactive communication skills with ability to work with physicians, patients and support staff.
Strong interpersonal and organization skills.
Working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of body mechanics and orthopedic terminology.
The hiring range for this position is $15.54 - $19.05 per hour.
