The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and management of a hospital-wide infection prevention program that includes infection control surveillance, education, monitoring trends that have been identified through surveillance, and maintains all regulatory functions. Ensures that leadership has current information on the Joint Commission and government requirements pertaining to infection control. Functions as a consultant to all hospital staff on infection control issues and is a liaison between the infection prevention committee and other hospital and satellite departments. Although working in collaboration with Infection Preventionist, the Coordinator will assign, as necessary, certain tasks to the Infection Preventionist in administration of the Infection Prevention Program. Supports the employee health department, as needed.
Ability to obtain a South Carolina RN License. Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in South Carolina. Bachelor`s degree in Nursing with a Master’s preferred. Master’s degree in Public Health and 2 years infection control experience will be accepted in lieu of RN degree and license.
At least three years’ clinical experience as a RN, if applicable; If RN, 1 year experience in infection control required and 2-3 years preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred and required within 1 year of hire date. Previous healthcare management experience required. In lieu of RN degree and license, public health experience and 2 years infection control experience will be accepted.
Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practice of hospital infection prevention, microbiology, epidemiology, and infectious diseases. Strong knowledge of infection control standards (the Joint Commission, CDC, APIC Guidelines) that affect the content of policies and procedures for the hospital is required. Ability to conduct complex problem solving and competency to make decisions regarding early intervention strategies. Knowledge of biostatistics needed. Ability to utilize and interpret biostatistical data and aggregated materials. Good oral and written communication skills needed.
Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in South Carolina, if applicable.
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred and required within 1 year of hire date.
