Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public.
Deputy Sheriff II is the experienced class in this series, fully competent to perform a wide range of peace officer duties. It is distinguished form Sheriff's Sergeant in that the latter supervises and trains deputies, in addition to participating in law enforcement activities.
Must be currently enrolled or have successfully completed a California P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement Academy and possess a current California P.O.S.T Academy Certificate.
Must possess a valid driver's license. Pursuant to Government Code, Section 1031, must be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or have proof of passing the general education development test (GED). Must be willing to work evening, nights, weekends and holiday shifts. Must be able to maintain a firearms qualification.
Additional Salary Information:
$70, 262.40 - $85,404.80 Annually
6.5% of base salary for possession of an Intermediate POST Certificate,
12.5% of base salary for possession of an Advanced POST Certificate
Maximum POST pay shall not exceed a total of 12.5%
2% of base salary for an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited institution
5% of base salary for a BA/BS degree from an accredited institution
5% of base salary for a MA/MS degree from an accredited institution
The education incentive is cumulative but the maximum educational incentive an eligible
employee may receive is 10%.
Additional 5% incentives for specialized positions such as Field Training Officer, Detectives, Coroners and Resident Deputies.
Depending on dependents and health care plan, employee could pay $0 out of pocket for health benefits.
