This position maintains and preserves the appearance and safety of City lands. This will be accomplished by conducting tree inventory and assessment, coordinating tree removal, trimming, planting and community education on Urban Forestry. Position will require interfacing with other City employees, citizens, various boards and commissions and applicable government agencies. Will assist in enforcement of tree ordinances and provide various administrative services including budget preparation and control, as well as direction to other employees related to Tree Services. This position also serves as the Department’s Safety Liaison, coordinating regular safety meetings and training opportunities.
May supervise crew members by assigning work tasks, providing assistance, and developing work orders, following up on assigned tasks and inspecting completed work.
Coordinates tree removal and pruning by outside contractor’s as well in-house staff, and manages tree inventories and studies.
Assist other City Departments with tree related issues as necessary.
Coordinates department wide safety meetings and develops safety training programs. May be required to make presentations to Staff on safety topics.
Oversees community relations by answering complaints and coordinating community
projects and special events.
Maintains accounts by ensuring payments of bills, inputting information for purchase orders
and maintaining records in H.T.E. system.
Must have the ability to conduct tree inventories and assessments, prepare spreadsheets, and written reports.
Must have the ability to use office suite software to conduct daily job functions.
Must be knowledgeable in the correct use of various landscaping equipment such as
chainsaws, loaders, and backhoes.
Must be able to walk and sit 8 hrs. daily; stand 3 hrs. daily, bend, stoop, twist and turn up to
15 min. daily; lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. 15 min. daily. Must be able to work in
extreme heat and cold, humidity, with exposure to dust, chemicals, allergens,
detergents, mechanical hazards and moving objects.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Landscaping, Horticulture, Park Administration or a closely related field plus at least three (3) years of experience is required, or a relevant combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess Certified Arborist designation by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record, or the ability to obtain a Texas Driver’s License within thirty (30) days from the date of hire or in accordance with Texas DPS policy, whichever comes first.
