New York University seeks a Associate Director for the IDC Innovation Hub. The position is made possible by seed funding provided by the IDC Foundation, which was established by the Institute of Design and Construction in Brooklyn, New York. IDC Innovation Hub is envisioned as an industry-supported center that conducts impactful, world-class research, educational, and outreach activities, guided by the active involvement of leaders from the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) community, through a membership program.
The Associate Director will contribute to a collaborative fundraising environment and participate in strategy sessions in support of interest-based, donor-centric prospect assignments. The Associate Director must be comfortable representing the IDC Innovation Hub with potential Hub members and be knowledgeable of the various terms and issues commonly encountered in construction engineering and management. The desired candidate should be conversant in current procurement methods, sustainability issues, and methods of outreach on large "mega" projects. An ideal candidate would have a corporate communications background in the AEC industry and an appreciation of how that background translates into a higher education environment
The Associate Director must have the ability to organize and manage the IDC major functions, including: (1) Hub's annual fundraising dinner, (2) Hub's biannual networking breakfast, and (3) Hub's annual conference, (4) Quarterly news letter. In addition, The Associate Director must be able to manage communication with media, including: (a) trade and general press, (b) appropriate TV and radio coverage, (c) Oversee development and maintenance of website, and social media presence. Working in close coordination for and with the IDC Chair, the Associate Director must have experience in the AEC industry and, ideally, should be a known entity to leaders within that industry.
Required Education: Bachelors in English, Journalism, Communications or related discipline
Preferred Education: • Masters in English, Journalism, Communications or related discipline
Required Experience: 10+ years of corporate communications, preferably in an AEC entity.
Preferred Experience: • History of Active participation in AEC professional organizations • Established relationships with the media/press, including trade and mainstream publications • Strong presence within the industry/the ability to reach out to organizations, consultants, and government agencies (federal/state/local)
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: • Ability to communicate with media outlets and Hub membership (owners. developers, agencies contractors, consultants, designers and architects). • Strong writing and verbal skills, and the ability to edit and develop documents, presentations, etc. • Chief of staff skills/ability to work well within all levels of an organization • Ability to enhance Hub membership through recruitment of AEC industrial partners • Proven managerial skills in corporate communications, including print/digital publications, websites, social media, etc.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: • Experience in overseeing major events
