Salary Range: CSU Salary Range: $2,502 - $9,083 per month (Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,100 - $6,250 per month) Salary commensurate with background and experience of the individual selected. The role of the University Development Division (UD) is to foster strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance support for Cal Poly. University Development establishes and implements an overall advancement program, including coordinating fundraising, donor relations, gift processing, trust and endowment management, training and systems support for the donor database, and Cal Poly Foundation support and administration.

Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Development, the Director of Development is responsible for providing advancement and fundraising services designed to increase private support for the priorities of Athletics and the University. The Director of Development is responsible for outreach to alumni, friends, parents, key volunteers and local businesses. Through this effort, the incumbent will identify prospects, coordinate and execute supporter visits, and appropriately develop and implement fundraising strategies that promote Athletics and University priorities. The Director of Development will communicate effectively and collaborate with on-campus personnel, including administration, coaching staffs and management to foster a team approach. The incumbent is expected to travel extensively, with required day and overnight travel.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in development, advancement or a related field.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials:
Possession of or the ability to obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license.
Demonstrated experience in developing and cultivating relationships with diverse and high-level constituencies.
Ability to participate with a high-level of responsibility in a large, complex and successful program with annual multi-year goals in a major long-term capital project campaign.
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
High-energy, collaborative and productive working style.
Knowledge of prospect management systems, fiscal administration and volunteer development.
Ability to identify, organize and conduct potential major gift donor contacts.
General knowledge and experience in prospect research, development, fundraising, market research, and/or relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact on organization with the ability to develop solutions.
Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple requests and assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Ability to gather information effectively from a variety of resources with the ability to analyze data and make accurate projections. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgement.
Demonstrated ability to effectively and accurately compile, write, and present reports related to prospect research findings.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
Working knowledge of methods and procedures for research and statistical analysis and the ability to apply them.
Demonstrated ability to interact, collaborate and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels on and off campus.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Working knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
Prior Higher Education, fundraising or Not-for Profit experience.
Demonstrated experience in data analysis, advanced analytical tools and databases relating to fundraising, prospect research, marketing or related field.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Ability to travel on a regular basis either locally or on overnight trips from one to three consecutive days, as much as 50% of the time.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date.
