The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) oversees a comprehensive Student Affairs organization with a $221 million annual budget and a staff of approximately 700. Responsible for Division-wide strategic planning, assessment, and staff development. The VCSA reports to the Chancellor and serves on the Chancellor's Cabinet. The VCSA promotes an engaged and healthy campus environment through services, programs, and innovative learning experiences beyond the classroom; encourages a strong sense of community among students, faculty, and staff with an emphasis on diversity and civic engagement. The VCSA will foster strong partnerships, particularly with the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor to promote student success.
Responsibilities of the Position
Use student learning and development theory along with best practices to enhance the student experience, both residential and commuter. Build collaborative working relationships with senior leadership, students, alumni, parents, and the local community Serve as a resource to faculty to support student success. Promote student engagement via a coordinated and collaborative co-curriculum that enhances student success, retention, and graduation rates. Prepare and direct the administration of the divisional budget, reflecting the support of strategic priorities both in the division and in the larger university. Work with key student groups, including but not limited to student government, Greek Life, and other student clubs and organizations. Advocate for student needs with Cabinet, board of trustees, faculty, and others. Conduct regular, rigorous assessment of both student needs and efficacy of services and programs within the Division Implement best practices for student safety in areas including but not limited to alcohol and drug use, gender-based violence, and bullying. Investigate and respond to complaints in a timely manner, consistent with federal mandates, and educate campus constituents about prevention and protections offered. Promote a climate that fosters civility, mutual respect, and high academic, personal and social standards, and that welcomes students from diverse backgrounds. Promote positive town/gown relationships. Manage Divisional staff by providing direction, evaluation, and professional development. Provide policy development, direction and administration for all financial matters for Student Government. Advocate for student input into all areas of the university decision-making processes. Serve as Appellate Officer in the Student Judicial System, when necessary. Represent the Division of Student Affairs on university committees.
Characteristics of the Successful Candidate
A master's degree in counseling, student development, higher education administration or a related field is required as is progressive student affairs senior leadership experience in higher education including significant supervision and fiscal management.

The VCSA is a highly visible leader, and is well-known and respected throughout the campus community as the leading student development expert. Strong relationships have been established with other senior administrators, faculty, and staff throughout the university-particularly among colleagues in academic affairs, enrollment management, and finance and administration-and these relationships are producing valuable collaborations that support student success and institutional strategic goals. The level of student engagement has grown, particularly regarding students' interest and involvement in significant leadership endeavors. A culture of assessment has been established throughout the Student Affairs Division. A strategic plan for Student Affairs has been articulated, informed by internal research and assessment and through review and consideration of national best practices and trends impacting the work of student affairs professionals and the students they serve. The Vice Chancellor is connected with key stakeholders and visible in the local community. Trust has been developed among staff across the division. Responsibilities are delegated to the appropriate departments, and leaders are held accountable for outcomes. Decision-making processes are efficient, inclusive, and transparent. There is a strong sense of shared vision and collegiality within the division.
