Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Dietitian.
In this role, the successful candidate The Division of General Pediatrics at NYU School of Medicine-Bellevue Hospital Center is currently recruiting a candidate to perform individual and group nutritional counseling for pregnant women and mothers of infants. This is part of a research study to test the effectiveness of an early childhood obesity prevention intervention beginning during the first trimester in pregnancy and continuing throughout the childs first two years of life. The study will be conducted in a hospital clinic setting, serving primarily low-income immigrant Latino families. Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Interventionist. The RD/Interventionist will perform diet assessments for all pregnant women enrolling in the study, perform individual nutrition counseling and lead interactive nutrition education groups. The RD/Interventionist will also design and develop obesity prevention education material such as handouts, booklets, pamphlets and posters (in English and Spanish) based on program curriculum.
Perform individual and group nutrition counseling during the first through third trimester of pregnancy, and lead interactive family groups until the child is aged two. Provide individual breastfeeding support to all intervention mothers. Perform nutritional screening and assessment for all pregnant women enrolled in the study.
Develop nutrition education materials (ie: handouts, booklets, pamphlets, and posters). Translate nutrition education material (ie: handouts and lessons) from English to Spanish. Schedule appointments and make reminder calls for all intervention subjects to attend family groups and/or individual sessions
Assist research RD/Interventionist and Associate Research Coordinator with day to day program activities, order day to day supplies and materials for family groups (ie: education tools, food for family groups, etc). Attend weekly team meetings.
Assist with study recruitment including screening/tracking new prenatal patients using the medical record system at Bellevue Hospital and enrolling eligible subjects in the first trimester of pregnancy. Family groups this includes all preparation for groups including room set up, gathering families, purchasing materials and clean up.
Work closely with collaborators in the outpatient clinic (OBGYN, Pediatrics, WIC). Prepare and review documents independently and generate status/progress reports for ongoing intervention as needed
The RD/Interventionist may also assist with the preparation and submission of IRB materials; orienting and training new research staff, dietetic interns and volunteers; coordinate meetings, conference calls, and site visits with collaborators and consultants.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Candidate must have a BA or BS in Nutrition and Dietetics or related field. Candidate must be a registered dietitian (RD) or RD eligible successful completion of the RD exam approved through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) must be obtained within the first three months of employment. Fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken) is a requirement for this position. Flexible working hours, including weeknights and weekends. Prior experience in a health care setting and/or research level interviews..
Required Licenses: Registered Dietitian
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a nutrition counseling program which includes women and/or young children, such as WIC or Head Start. Experience developing nutrition education materials using InDesign. Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).
