The Head of School will provide dynamic, executive leadership in meeting Malden Catholic’s mission to create not only a rigorous college preparatory environment but a community of faith that promotes the dignity and respects the diversity of all through Gospel values. He/She will embrace the Xaverian charism and honor the values of compassion, simplicity, humility, trust, and zeal. The incumbent will report to the Board of Trustees and operate in a President-Principal like model. The role is generally externally focused, with emphasis on admissions, fiduciary responsibilities, development, alumni/community relations, and representing the school to an evergrowing audience of prospective families and donors. Given the dynamic changes recently implemented in the school’s program, now inclusive of girls, the Head of School must work collaboratively with internal stakeholders as well, including both principals, to manage and lead these changes while further clarifying priorities for the school.
Major priorities and responsibilities for the next Head of School include but are not limited to:
Fostering a community of trust, respect, and mutual concern by further empowering and validating the highly capable, dedicated faculty and staff.
Leading and managing change with the addition of the new School for Girls. While affirming the capabilities of the principals, the next Head of School must work closely to ensure one, cohesive, collaborative Malden Catholic school community exists within that codivisional model.
Engaging stakeholders in the development of a long-term vision for the school, including a strategic plan and campus master plan which recognizes both the long-term growth potential, with the addition of the School for Girls, and the need to ensure equity in resources across both divisions.
Managing enrollment and student retention. Further developing aggressive marketing/recruitment strategies which convincingly highlight the value proposition of a Malden Catholic education.
Addressing affordability and accessibility. Increasing external support for operations and endowment, while maintaining sound financial practices.
Leveraging a supportive and vast alumni base and alumni association in achieving key school priorities.
Recognizing Malden Catholic’s robust history, upholding and articulating the school’s Xaverian, Catholic identity.
The new Head of School will be a practicing Catholic, faithful to the traditions of our Church and a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School. He/She must be ethically above reproach and be regularly visible within the school community, demonstrating genuine care for the total program. He/She must be welcoming, trustworthy, kind, and empathetic while exhibiting unwavering support of a codivisional model of Catholic education.
In addition, it is preferred that candidates possess the following:
Significant prior executive management and leadership experience.
Business and financial acumen, a sense of stewardship, and skills that include risk management, financial management, and complex facility management.
An advanced understanding of enrollment and marketing strategies for Catholic high schools, particularly for Malden Catholic’s demographic.
Experience in major donor cultivation and solicitation.
Collaborative experience working with a governing board.
An advanced degree.

About Malden Catholic High School
Through the commitment of the Xaverian Brothers, dedicated families, and local parish support, Boys’ Catholic
High School, later to be known as Malden Catholic, was created in 1932. Re-dedicated and relocated to its current
location in 1968, Malden Catholic has successfully educated thousands of young men to become Christian leaders
who promote the dignity and respect the diversity of all. As a Catholic, college preparatory high school, Malden
Catholic is dedicated to the intellectual, creative, spiritual, social, and physical development of its students.
In 2017, the school announced the establishment of Malden Catholic School for Girls, the all-girls' division of
Malden Catholic. In addition, the school successfully completed a $25 million-dollar capital campaign. Malden
Catholic commenced a 30,000 sq. ft. renovation of school space, which was completed in February 2018. The
school also purchased a 70,000 sq. foot building across the street for possible, future expansion. The School for
Girls opened with resounding success this past September, achieving an admission’s waiting list in its inaugural
year for grade 9 students.
The academic facilities at Malden Catholic ...have realized additional and substantial upgrades, beyond the most
recent enhancements from the 2017 campaign, including the Joseph J. O'Donnell '62 Science Center and the Joseph
J. O'Donnell '62 Learning Commons. As a result, today's Malden Catholic students now benefit from state-of-the art
facilities for STEM exploration and library research. The strong and varied academic program is bolstered by a
robust extracurricular and athletic program which has realized great success over the school’s history, including
five state ice hockey titles in the past eight years.
