The Assistant Director of Student Engagement, under general direction, coordinates, develops, and assesses comprehensive programs to include community and civic engagement efforts, BECOME, Warrior Week, and Hunger & Homelessness Awareness. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director develops, directs, and evaluates student organizations, civic and democratic engagement initiatives, campus life community experiences, and leadership development opportunities. This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and is required to report non-personally identifying information to the Department of Public Safety related to any and all incidents that fall within the Jeanne Clery Act.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

-  Direct and serve as the primary contact for all recognized student organizations, advise students in the development of new organizations, and ensure all groups are in alignment with federal, state, and local laws and university policies and procedures, including the Student Organization Handbook. Coordinate regular risk management training, student organization orientation, and hazing prevention efforts.  

- Provide leadership to campus life event planning to include, but not limited to, Warrior Week, Hunger & Homelessness Awareness, Warrior Ring Ceremony and programs, experiential learning related opportunities. Coordinate planning teams, oversee risk management, ensure budgetary alignment & fiscal responsibility, programmatic evaluation, and the supervision of student employees.

- Lead cocurricular civic engagement and democratic learning initiatives, and social justice education initiatives, such as, but not limited to, BECOME: A Poverty Simulation, Oxfam Hunger Banquet, Alternative Spring Break, Constitution Day, student voter registration, service projects, and days of service, through intentional collaboration with community partners, students, and university employees.

- Recruit, train, lead, and supervise student employees and graduate assistants. Serve as the primary advisor for both the Campus Cupboard, our campus food pantry, and the A&M-Central Texas National Society of Leadership & Success Chapter

- Oversee the student organization recognition process and develop and execute strategic initiatives to increase student organization involvement and maintain the student engagement software platform, Engage by Campus Labs.

- Develop and maintain positive rapport with campus and community stakeholders, including community organizations and agencies. Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs in developing and maintaining social media efforts for the office and Division.

- Serve as a representative on department, division, and university committees and taskforces. Serve as an investigator and hearing officer in the university student conduct process on an as-needed basis.

- Manage budgetary resources for the office, student travel, and event funding. Coordinate the dispersal of student organization reimbursement with the Student Government Association.

- Other duties as assigned, to include on-call responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelorâ™s degree from a regionally accredited institution in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Six years of related experience in management of Student Activities, or similar, programs.
• Must have demonstrated experience in the successful completion of multiple projects and responsibilities.
• Must have excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
• Must have demonstrated experience using and familiarity with computer applications: word, excel, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A masterâ™s degree from a regionally accredited institution in higher education or student affairs administration.
• Experience working with and advising student groups and advising student organizations.
• Experience developing comprehensive community engagement programs.

Salary: $42,666

Hours: Mon-Fri; 8am - 5pm; some weekend and night requirements.
