Head, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
School of Medicine
Oregon Health & Science University
The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM Division). A critical leader in the Department and School, the next Head will lead a division thriving in all its missions. PCCM faculty have built a successful clinical enterprise delivering high-quality and complex care to a growing population, while advancing science through well-funded research and training practitioners in two fellowship programs. The division has a history of excellence in recruiting promising young scientists, developing strong clinical programs that serve a growing need in the region, and maintaining a healthy financial footing. Division morale is strong and is marked by a collaborative spirit. The growth of the division has been bolstered by endowments supporting investments in faculty and their research. The next Head will leverage these assets to further advance the division in scale and achievement to become a nationally preeminent academic program.
The next Division Head will take over during a period of remarkable success at OHSU—it is a moment of both clinical expansion and investment in the basic sciences. Ranked as one of the nation's top 25 biomedical research institutions, OHSU is a thriving academic health center which has grown steadily in the last decade. In 2017, OHSU's operating budget reached $2.8 billion, research award dollars totaled $410 million, and $131 million in philanthropic gifts pushed the University's capital campaign (launched in 2015) to more than $1.5 billion. OHSU's physical growth can be seen in a new Collaborative Life Sciences Building, a new School of Public Health, the Knight Cancer Institute research building, the Center for Health & Healing South, and the Rood Family Pavilion. And as part of its clinical expansion, exciting new affiliations have been established, further extending OHSU's and the division's reach into the broader community.
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Head of the PCCM Division will advance the division's missions of research, patient care, education and service. S/he will bring the highest expectations for excellence, an ability to create and promote partnerships across the School of Medicine, affiliate hospitals, and external constituents, skill in recruiting and mentoring faculty, and the ability to inspire and motivate a group around a shared vision. Success as an investigator, notably in extramural funding, is desired; the ability to build the collective scientific enterprise is required.
