STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This senior level position involves the sharing of functional responsibilities with a partnership of six public higher education institutions in southeastern Massachusetts known as CONNECT. The risk/compliance officer is responsible for the integration of risk management, governance, public safety and compliance activities. This position routinely communicates with the president, senior leadership, and the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates issues/concerns within the organization.
SUPERVISION REQUIRED: Reports to the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Risk/Compliance Officer will direct a risk assessment and analysis program, including facilitating discussions to identify risks and developing strategies to mitigate or manage risk within acceptable levels. The Risk/Compliance Officer will provide effective oversight and work closely with administrators to develop, implement, and maintain an effective and broad-based compliance program designed to monitor, detect, and prevent areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective action when necessary to fully meet compliance regulations. Specific areas of compliance include the following:
environmental health and safety
information privacy and security
Strong skills with Microsoft products.
Database management skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
Progressive understanding and command of technological best practices for a college compliance officer.
Commitment to the community college mission and serving the needs of first-generation and traditionally underserved populations.
Knowledge and understanding of FERPA, state and federal regulations, and other applicable laws.
Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
A commitment to embracing diversity and serving the needs of a diverse population, including the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
Master's degree in business or related field from an accredited institution.
Professional certification, e.g., CRM, CCEP, CIA, CFE
Experience in the development and implementation of a comprehensive risk management and/or compliance program.
Understanding of applicable laws, regulations, industry standards and related compliance issues.
Demonstrated commitment to the principles of shared governance and transparency.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to develop an effective and respectful working relationship with all levels of the college community.
Excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and competing demands.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Strong collaborative skills.
Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
POSITION STATUS: This is a full-time, non-unit position with benefits.
