The Executive Director (ED) leads, plans, directs and develops programs to ensure the successful support of all College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) initiatives. Serving as the Assistant to the Dean, this position will provide creative leadership to strengthen programs in instruction, research, and extension/outreach. As a leader, the ED promotes academic excellence, integrity, and foresight in the development, delivery and assessment of academic, research and extension programs and services, and fosters a supportive, customer-focused learning environment.
Assists the Dean with strategic leadership of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences. Communicates clear, achievable, and compelling vision of the Dean to all constituents. Deliberately and effectively shapes organizational culture to deliver on that vision. Embraces principles of diversity and inclusion. Collaborates with the Unit Leaders and faculty to ensure that the program areas develop high quality, high impact programs by: providing staff and professional development opportunities; maintaining and developing key stakeholder relationships; analyzing trends; identifying and documenting the public value of programs; coordinating market-research on participant potential; allocating resources for program investments; documenting program results; and developing and managing communications content. Supports the Dean and leaders of the respective mission areas in efforts to develop, evaluate and retain faculty and staff with appropriate academic credentials, relevant professional experience, research interests, service and commitment to the College and its mission. Assists the Dean with providing direction and support for the External Advisory Committee and the Strategic Task Forces as part of the newly initiated strategic planning process and the NIFA Plan of Work development.
Creates and executes a global strategic plan for identifying, contacting, and developing relationships with prospective global clients, with primary focus on the Land Grant mission and its benefits to the citizens of Texas. Maintains relationships with existing clients to assess satisfaction with ongoing programming and helps build an entrepreneurial culture among Extension, field-based Extension educators, and campus faculty, focusing on the educational mission and financial sustainability. Serves as liaison and consults in technical matters of Business and Strategic Planning; Portfolio Management, Gap Analysis, and Developing Capability Matrices for Marketing Plans. Assesses financial analytics, Earn Value Management (EVM), allocations and burn rates to implement more effective operational strategies College-wide and assist with forecast models for revenue and expenditure changes. Encourages fiscal sustainability and growth and leverages resources to build an effective and sustainable set of Academic, Research and Extension programs.
Monitors and coordinates ongoing program development initiatives for the College, the Cooperative Extension Program (CEP) and Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) by developing program metrics to assess successful outcomes and improvements that are aligned with the Plan of Work and the College?s strategic plan. In addition, develops and articulates strategic approaches, partnerships, management/staffing plans and program designs. Coordinates regularly with faculty and staff and other departments engaged in program development efforts. Represents PVAMU and the College at regional, national, and international meetings to identify issues and resources that could benefit program development work in Texas and beyond. Meets on a regular basis with the Deans, faculty and student leaders to promote communication among constituents and to ensure broad participation in governance. Oversees the planning for, development, delivery and assessment of quality-centered, career-oriented academic programs. Stimulates opportunities for faculty and Extension educators, related to the evaluation of Extension programs and related to innovative educational program development and delivery methods.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in applicable field.
Ten years of related experience in management.
