Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge, is a modern and progressive nonprofit health system in western North Carolina with locations in Morganton and Valdese, two long-term care facilities, a retirement community, advanced wellness center, home healthcare company and multiple physician practices. A Board of Directors made up of local citizen volunteers oversees Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge. The hospitals’ medical technology is state-of-the art. The facilities are modern, attractive and convenient. Physicians in more than 30 specialties serve on the Medical Staff.
The CMO will report to the health system’s Chief Executive Officer, and serve as a member of the Executive Team, with primary responsibility for coordinating the clinical quality process within the system. He/She will work in collaboration with members of the medical staff, governing board and leadership to facilitate and assure effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge.
The CMO will support the President of Medical Staff by providing leadership in all aspects of medical affairs, with emphasis on clinical care quality, patient safety, physician leadership development and efficiency throughout the continuum. He/She is expected to forge strong, trusting relationships with members of the Medical Staff leadership that will assist the organization in strengthening its alignment with physicians on the Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge Medical Staff.
The CMO will have direct supervisory responsibility of quality management functions, pharmacy services, and graduate medical education. Additionally, the CMO will have a close working relationship with the various Department Chairs to improve the overall quality of care delivered in their respective areas. He/She will also interface with the Board and corporate leadership as required.
Graduation from an accredited medical school as an MD or DO with a current NC license and board certification in a clinical discipline
Ability to become credentialed on the CHS Blue Ridge Medical Staff
Experience in and knowledge of the delivery of healthcare services throughout the continuum of patient care
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal presentation skills sufficient to interact effectively with multiple parties in complex situations as well as highly qualified in conflict resolution
Five plus years of physician executive leadership, with emphasis on improvements in quality, outcomes, physician alignment and clinical information systems.
Five to ten years of progressive medical leadership experience in a highly complex medical environment
Graduate degree (MHA, MBA or MPH preferred)
Certification by the AAPL as a Certified Physician Executive (CPE)
Two to three years of experience as a CMO in a hospital or health system.
