The associate director will play an integral role in developing and implementing ASAE’s advocacy strategies and Power of A program. Through a team-oriented approach, the position will take a leadership role in ASAE’s lobbying efforts as well as focus on grassroots, fundraising, and Power of A portfolios.

Advocating for ASAE policy issues on Capitol Hill and before the Executive Branch. Staff person will be registered as a federal lobbyist.
Support the development and execution of legislative strategy at the federal and state level.
Assist with management of ASAE’s annual legislative fly-in.
Supporting ASAE’s Power of A campaign, including Power of A Ambassadors program.
Strengthen existing and develop new relationships with key Congressional Members and staff with the goal of furthering support for ASAE’s policy initiatives.
Attending PAC fundraising and/or possible partisan programs.
Staffing relevant policy committees
Managing outreach to chief executives of the state, local and regional societies of association executives.
Share ASAE’s Public Policy work with outside audiences through written work and public speaking.
Additional duties as assigned.
Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, the legislative/regulatory process.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Entrepreneurial spirit with strong initiative and follow through.
Synthesize information and write clearly, logically, and persuasively on assigned issues for diverse audiences.
Ability to speak clearly and persuasively on legislative topics or topics related to the ASAE Public Policy Department.
Organizational, planning, and management skills for group meetings.
Must be able to handle multiple activities at the same time and exercise a high degree of discretion and strategic judgement. Ability to work under several deadlines, prioritize, and function well autonomously and as a self-motivated team member.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database management software.(experience with Office365, Aptify, GovPredict and Cision a plus)
Knowledge of social media tools and best practices.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This job operates in a professional office environment.
Ability to lift 20 pounds on occasion.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Ability to work before and after-hours events on occasion is needed.
Occasional travel is required.
Required Education and Experience
While not required, Capitol Hill or campaign experience a plus.
Preferred Education and Experience
BS/BA degree in Political Science, Communications or a related field is highly desirable.
Experience working in government, government or public relations, or a policy role.
