The incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day employer/employee and labor relations functions. Specific duties include: providing guidance to managers and employees on counseling, discipline, performance management, policy interpretation, grievance procedures, first and second step grievance conferences, union contract compliance and other employment and employer/employee relations matters. This position will also be responsible for overseeing all aspects of unemployment claims, including but not limited to researching claims, working closely with campus departments and payroll in gathering information, completing claim forms in a timely manner, participating in conferences and appeal hearings, and maintaining documentation; maintaining and updating the collective bargaining database for two collective bargaining units and shared governance group and producing reports as requested; serving as a member on the Labor Management Committee; participating in collective bargaining negotiations; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Human Resources Management, legal studies or a related area (JD or relevant Master’s degree preferred). The successful candidate must have at least five years (seven preferred) of related work experience. Note: A JD and/or a Master's degree may be substituted for two years of the required five years of experience.
Must have strong: interpersonal, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation and application of employment laws, regulations, policies and guidelines as it relates to employment/labor relations; and the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and compassion in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential human resource issues and employee situations (such as employee separations); and working knowledge of current state and federal discrimination and employment laws and regulations required. Must have strong computer skills, especially in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Experience in higher education or the public sector strongly desired.
