The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) consists of the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada.The George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a mid-sized affiliated tertiary care facility with 121 authorized active beds. It is a teaching facility, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. The VASLCHCS is part of the VA Network 19, which includes facilities in Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Idaho, and Nevada.
The selected Gastroenterologist Physician Candidate will be responsibilities for completing patient history and physical examinations, diagnosis, and therapeutic-ability, effectiveness in emergencies, patient management, consultation, specialty skills and record keeping. Physician is expected to promote delivery of quality patient care based on current standards in the practice of GI Diseases in our gastroenterology clinics and hospital; ICU and Hospital coverage; Performs GI Endoscopies/Special Procedures (G-tube, ERCP, etc.); Skill and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including the ability to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed to promote improvement. Provider will also have teaching responsibilities include the effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordination of educational activities - planning, evaluating and documenting. Gastroenterologist's educational responsibilities include: Teaching house staff/students in ICU/Hospital/outpatient clinic; Research responsibilities and development include the ability to identify and define significant research and development problems, to plan and execute a precise research program and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication. The GI Physician should be able to communicate and promote the broad use of the results of research and development.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm with on-call duties on the weekend, night, and holiday as necessary.
Must be a Citizen of the United States
Must be proficient in written and spoken English
Must have current, full and unrestricted U.S. state license to practice medicine
Residency Training in Gastroenterology Leading to Board Eligibility or Board Certification (BC Preferred)
