The Lawrence Hall of Science is a public science center serving 150,000 visitors every year. We’re looking for seasonal clerk/cashiers available to work any dates from 11/12/18 through 1/31/19. We will hire people who are able to work throughout that period or for portions of that period. We have full-time and part-time positions available. As the face of our visitor services and retail operations department, the Clerk/Cashier is key to the organization. A knowledgeable, energetic, and friendly clerk/cashier sets the tone and ensures that all visitors receive excellent service.
CASHIERING: •Sell museum admission, books, toys, science kits, grab-and-go food items, movie tickets, planetarium shows, and memberships (depending on retail environment). •Follow cash handling procedures as outlined in the University of California Business and Finance Bulletin BUS-49 and departmental and campus cash handling policy •Follow proper cash handling and other payment options procedures including: custody of daily money drawer, record and reconcile sales on designated forms, secure sales and credit card receipts •Accurately operate the electronic point-of-sale (cash register), including: count customers’ change, provide receipts, correctly process on-line card transactions, ask supervisor for change in a timely manner to meet customer demand
CUSTOMER SERVICE •Have knowledge of and be able to communicate all products and experiences to on site visitors and also to remote customers. •Provide a high level of customer service, including resolving minor customer service problems according to predetermined protocols Administrative Projects •Maintain inventory and prepare routine reorders •Financial reconciliation •Data entry •General administrative tasks
OTHER: •Under guidance of supervisors and following plans, direct the emergency evacuation of the building •Other duties as assigned.•Cashiering experience in a retail/bank/food service, museum or educational attraction is desired •Demonstrated customer service experience •Excellent verbal and written communication skills •Enthusiastic, service oriented personality •Reliability •Attention to detail •Ability to work weekends and holidays required. •High School diploma •18 years old This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010.
