The University of Pikeville is actively seeking a dynamic and committed professional to serve in the role of Director of Library Services. This position will provide leadership, planning, and administration of the University of Pikeville Library programs and services in support of the instructional programs of UPIKE. The Library Director has principal authority over library programs and works under the general direction of the Assistant Provost.
Develops library initiatives that enhance student learning within undergraduate, medical, and optometry colleges.
Directs integration of appropriate technologies into services.
Fosters forward-looking collection development plans that support accreditation.
Leads all aspects of library administration (including long term planning, budget development and control, outreach, personnel selection, facilities management, effective stewardship, and ongoing assessment of library resources).
Maintains and strengthens collaborative efforts with consortia and other resource sharing groups.
Nurtures an organizational culture of collegiality and service within the library and on campus.
Provides strategic vision and leadership for the library, faculty and staff coordinating with the University's mission.
Serves on campus committees and acts as the library's liaison to senior college administrators.
Supervises librarians, professional staff, and student workers.
Collect and retain essential data required by state, regional, federal, and other accreditation agencies.
Demonstrate continuing professional development. Actively contributes to state or national professional associations. Serves on college, regional, and national committees as needed.
Plans and procedures for acquiring, maintaining, and deselecting library materials in all formats.
Policies and procedures for operation of the library.
Strong partnerships within the University.
Ensure that librarian and staff workflows and related processes are effective, efficient, and current.
Advocate for the library.
Collaborate with campus constituents to assess, provide and improve library services to meet campus needs.
Implement methods to assess the collections to ensure that college-wide, campus, and program specific needs are defined and met.
Inform administration of the library's strengths and weaknesses in meeting college needs and accreditation standards.
Maintain an effective combination of print, media, and electronic information resources.
Oversee the physical and virtual library space and ensures that spaces, fixtures, furniture, and technologies are prepared to meet the needs of a 21st Century university library.
Supervise the assessment of all library resources and services for student learning and faculty effectiveness.
Implement and administer all library resources and services for students, faculty and staff wherever classes are taught, in the context of continuous improvement.
Manage an annual budget that is derived from several funding sources.
Provide vision and strategic direction for library services in alignment with the University's mission.
Supervise and develop knowledgeable librarians and staff through continuous professional development.
Work collaboratively with the Assistant Provost, University administrators, University deans, University governance committees and University departments concerning library programs and services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position requires daily contact with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students in order to exchange information and generate work flow. These relationships are maintained through e-mail and text messages, telephone and person-to-person contact.
Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
Five or more years' experience in an academic library with progressive responsibilities.
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
Working knowledge of the Internet and commonly used computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Training and technical skills such as highly proficient use of online search and online resource database technology.
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse community.
Current skills in a wide range of technologies common to academic librarianship.
Ability to analyze trends in academic librarianship and to extrapolate their appropriateness to the College's current and future needs.
Knowledge of current trends in small academic libraries.
Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to work independently.
Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
Understand how to work successfully as a team within all levels of the organization and know how to contribute to the mission of the college.
