The Business Advancement Director will be responsible for financial and administrative oversight for all Platt-owned companies, including: Platt Architecture, P.A. (architecture); Platt Management Group (construction); Witherspoon Platt Associates (real estate and conservation consulting); Platt Holding Group (real estate holding); Platt Investment Group (real estate investment); and PPW, Inc. (real estate investments and rental properties). S/he will be responsible for the companies' day-to-day business operating activities, including revenue and sales growth; expense, cost, and margin control; and financial goal management. Reporting to the Vice President, the BAD will work closely with the President and senior staff members to foster cooperation and collaboration among all facets of the organizations' operations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Goals. Serve as a strategic business partner with executive leadership team for Platt-owned entities. Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic initiatives. Explore new business development opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks. Work to enhance operational and delivery systems throughout the business. Support and advise the Principals in decision-making.
Financial Management and Oversight. Working with the Bookkeeper, oversee all financial and business planning activities, including:
Financial Analysis & Reporting: Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts, and related company cost allocations. Identify, develop, and execute analysis of business initiatives, client projects, and/or new service offerings. Review and analyze financial reports and ensure that relevant financial data is presented to the executive team.
Financial Accounting and Controls: Oversee and approve selection of new vendors. Negotiate contract terms. Issue corporate credit cards to employees.
Cash Management: Work with Bookkeeper to forecast cash flow and propose solutions for any projected shortfalls across all Platt-owned entities.
Budgeting: Work with Bookkeeper to create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the companies' plans for growth and expansion. Prepare annual operating and capital budgets.
Financial Relationships: Maintain outstanding banking relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners. Represent company to banks, financial partners, public auditors, and officials.
Human Resources. Manage and oversee the entire human resource function for Platt-owned companies including:
Recruitment, hiring, and compensation;
Benefits administration and oversight; and
Regulatory oversight and legal compliance.
Operations. Oversee all aspects of the operations of the organization including:
Information Technology. Ensure the ongoing maintenance and updating of information systems and infrastructure. Oversee development and implementation of long-term and short-term technology plans. Ensure that the organizations are utilizing appropriate technology to achieve their overall goals.
Risk Management and Legal Activities. Oversee these areas for all functions of the organizations including letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements.
Insurance. Procure, monitor, and manage the appropriate insurance for all Platt-owned entities.
Office Management. Work with staff to ensure that the administrative needs of the organizations are met.
Corporate Governance. Ensure that necessary corporate governance policies and procedures are in place, as required by regulatory authorities and for internal control purposes.
Facilities. Work with Platt Holding Group, Platt Management Group, and staff to ensure that Platt-owned facilities meet the needs of staff, tenants, and guests.
Sales and Marketing. Work with the principals, senior project managers, and Office Manager to manage the sales pipeline and ensure that revenue goals are met. Coordinate with external marketing vendors to create and implement an organizational marketing plan, including appropriate collateral materials.
Management and Ownership Succession. Assist owners with personal and organizational needs pertaining to short-term and long-term succession planning.
Other. Perform a variety of other duties as needed, either independently or in collaboration with others.
Position reports to Vice President and works closely with President and key staff.
Position supervises all administrative and finance staff, including Office Services Supervisor, Bookkeeper, and PMG Administrative Assistant. Serves as the primary liaison along with assigned staff to outsourced consultant (IT, Accounting, HR).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. CPA or MBA preferred.
Financial accounting experience, including at least two years in a position with responsibility for making financial decisions and managing staff members. Experience in architecture and/or construction industries a plus.
Experience with computerized financial accounting systems. Knowledge of QuickBooks preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
Business skills to apply financial systems and business development knowledge into overall organizational context. Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Interpersonal skills to work effectively and collaboratively with senior leadership, staff, business partners, and clients.
