The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry is seeking a Research Assistant for the department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences.
This Research Assistant position will be responsible for maintenance of numerous mouse lines in our colony as well as various experimental procedures, including administration of special diets, timed matings, genotyping, selective breeding for the generation of complex genetic crosses, animal euthanasia, tissue dissection and embryo harvesting. The person will also be able to independently perform micro-computed tomographic imaging of postnatal animals and optical projection tomograhic imaging of embryos, and the subsequent reconstruction, processing, rendering, and analysis of imaging data. The individual will also be expected to perform basic cell culturing, including transfection, and the subsequent analyses which may include - but not limited to - immunofluorescence, western blotting, and cell counting. The person will also contribute to routine laboratory functions, including ordering and training of other lab members on an as needed basis, maintenance of chemical stocks, maintaining up to date laboratory notes as well as clean and safe work areas. They will work with, and receive instruction/training from, the senior scientist in the laboratory involving various molecular and developmental biology techniques.
A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is requried.
A Master of Science (M.S.) is preferred.
Full Time/Part Time
This is a full-time, 100% FTE, Non-Tenure Track (NTT), benefit eligible position.
The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $44,000, and is commensurate with education and experience.
