The Phlebotomy Technician( Cert Phlebotomist Tech II) is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The Phlebotomy Technician provides phlebotomy services to adolescent, adult, geriatric, pediatric, and neonate patients, including the timely and accurate specimen receipt, accessioning, preparation and/or processing for analysis on various body fluids, tissues, and fecal material for the department/clinic for which it is assigned. This position also performs clerical duties as determined per operational need, such as answering phones, appointment scheduling, data entry, check in, registration, inventory control and supply ordering.REQUIRED-Must be certified as Certified Phlebotomy Technician by the State of California DHS. -Must have the skills and experience to perform adult, geriatric, adolescent and/or pediatric and neonatal venipuncture and neonatal skin puncture in both an inpatient or outpatient setting.-Must possess working knowledge of medical terminology, basic human anatomy and technical knowledge to complete assigned tasks.-Must possess working knowledge of laboratory protocols and skill in the application of such, including technical vocabulary to meet departmental business needs. -Knowledge of basic chemistry and biology for understanding methods used in the laboratory. -Possess mathematic skills for performing routine laboratory calculations. -Problem solving skills to independently define a problem identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create viable solutions and take the necessary action to implement problem resolution and ensure prompt and satisfactory resolution.-Decision making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action and to appropriately seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached. -Ability to maintain composure and flexibility in an evolving environment.-Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all co-workers; to consistently interact with patients and other members of the public with patience, courtesy and professionalism, both in person and on the telephone; and to effectively respond to individuals who may be angry or upset. Possess skill to communicate and function effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural work environment.-Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding sufficient to assist with identifying lab services performed. -Knowledge of all pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and provision to others, including HIPAA. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT-Must be able to travel to PCN locations for assignments if needed. -Must possess the ability to cope with exposure to patients and contaminated specimens. -Must be able to lift, move, and handle objects weighting up to 44 lbs. Incumbent will also be required to utilize body mechanics (walking, sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, grasping, pushing, pulling, and reaching) when necessary to carry out all job duties and functions.-THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
