Founded in 2009, the Athena Center at Barnard College is dedicated to the advancement of strong, bold women. Located in the Milstein Center for Teaching and Learning, the Athena Center collaborates closely with departments and centers across campus to offer experiential learning opportunities to Barnard students from across disciplines.
The Center's programs explore what it means to innovate, to collaborate, and to excel. Hallmark initiatives of the center include: (1) programs that give Barnard women practical tools and creative confidence to influence change, generate impact and come up with ambitious solutions to challenging problems; (2) events that highlight extraordinary women leaders from diverse industries and organizations; (3) experiences that enable students to explore entrepreneurship and drive innovation and social change; and (4) The Athena Film Festival — a 4-day celebration of fierce and fearless women.
The Director of the Athena Center will work closely with the President and Provost of Barnard College to build upon the early success and momentum of the Center and define the strategy and goals for the next 10 years. This is a unique opportunity to join a premier academic institution – Barnard holds a singular place in higher education, with its focus on excellence across the arts and sciences, the vast academic resources of Columbia University just steps away – and assume leadership of a Center that is in a period of growth and transition.
