Nurturing and working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to create a diverse and inclusive environment are integral parts of the mission of the School of Law. We seek an individual who is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion, deeply committed to social justice, and dedicated to supporting and increasing the diversity of the students, faculty, and staff to join the law school team as the next Director for Inclusion and Diversity Education. The Director will hold the faculty title of Instructor, with a full-time, twelve-month appointment.
While the responsibility to promote an environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all students is shared by the entire community, the Director will play a leadership role in guiding the institution with respect to inclusion and diversity. The Director will:
1.Support students,faculty, and staff across a broad spectrum of diverse backgrounds; 2.Develop and implement a broad range of programs that support diversity and promote cross-cultural awareness, equity, and inclusion; 3.Support efforts to recruit law students from traditionally underrepresented groups, including through the administration of pipeline programs; 4.Collaborate with the office of the Dean to promote and support diversity in all staff and faculty hiring,promotion, and retention;and 5.Collaborate with the office of the Vice President for Diversity and Community Engagement to support the university’s efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The successful candidate will have autonomy and support to pursue initiatives that promote the multicultural awareness and cultural fluency of all members of the law school community and to bring attention to traditional structures of power. As a member of the full-time faculty, the Director may, among other things:
A.Create and offer courses in social justice theory, as well as practical training in cultural competencies; B.Collaborate with other law faculty colleagues in their course design and development; and C.Conduct or participate in research activities and scholarship centered on issues of cultural competencies and social justice.
The Director reports directly to the Dean. The Director will also work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Office of Admission, the office of Student Services,the Academic Resource Center,and other members of the law school leadership team.
The successful candidate should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in diversity and inclusion work. Experience in higher education is also strongly preferred.A J.D., Ed.D., Ph.D.or other terminal degree is required; a J.D.is preferred.The position will remain posted until the opening is filled.
