The Accounts Receivable Office at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for an Accountant III/ IV.
The position will independently administer and reconcile university, federal and private funds as well as provide customer service to our students, parents, external customers, and university departments. This position will be responsible for all fiscal aspects of the department including: reconciliation, operational accounting journals, cash management, regulatory compliance, and audit assistance. This position will complete the financial reconciliation for institutional funds and provide monthly in-depth financial reporting concerning regulatory requirements of the U.S. Department of Education, Iowa Board of Regents, Senior Administration of Iowa State University and the Government of the Student Body. This position is expected to be the fiscal expert for the department and will advise university departments, senior management, internal and external auditors to ensure compliance with all University fiscal policies. This position will approve transactions related to the operations of the Accounts Receivable Office. The incumbent will train university department staff relating to fiscal duties. This position will provide students, parents, employees and outside customers with information relating to billing, financial aid, payment options and their implications on enrollment and graduation.
In addition to the duties listed above for an Accountant III, the Accountant IV will have the authority to approve accounting transactions and act for the associate director in their absence. This position is responsible for creating financial processes and supporting audits/reviews. Responsibilities also include creation of accounting spreadsheets; review and approval of accounting transactions and revenue/expense allocations, interpretation and preparation of reports regarding department and university financial activity.
The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills along with the ability to create complex spreadsheets using standard software. An in-depth understanding of accounting systems is essential due to the variety and complexity of the accounting functions performed. The candidate will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills to effectively provide customer service to students, parents, faculty, staff, vendors, and other account administrators. A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently along with working productively in a team setting.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience in managing/reconciling fiscal accounts Experience in federal/state regulation compliance Experience working in financial systems related to accounting Customer service experience
