Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is in search of a Financial Aid Specialist who will be responsible for the day-to-day packaging and awarding of federal, state, and institutional financial aid for university students. The primary responsibilities of this position include packaging and awarding aid to students in accordance with federal, state and college regulations, and conducting verifications of student aid eligibility.
The successful candidate will possess 3 to 5 years of expereince in higher education, with 3 years in Financial Aid or Scholarship Office as well as a:
Working knowledge of regulations governing federal, state and institutional policies regarding administration of financial aid, i.e. Federal Direct Loans, NDSL, Federal Work Study Programs, EdFund, Sallie Mae, EdConnect, EdExpress, Cal Grants and Web Express.
Knowledge of PowerFAIDS and Microsoft Office (MS Windows, Word, Excel).
Ability to analyze and interpret federal and state regulations pertaining to student aid.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse/multi-culture faculty, students, staff and external contacts.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Excellent proactive communication skills, ability to negotiate, make requests and provide leadership.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to address complex issues.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
