The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley's risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley's capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the Firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties.
The Risk Management Division comprises Market, Credit, and Operational Risk, together with Risk Governance, Risk Infrastructure, Risk Analytics and Portfolio Risk.
The EMEA Risk Governance function was created in light of the increased focus on demonstrating the effectiveness of control frameworks across risk management. The principal objective is to ensure EMEA risk governance and oversight is in line with local regulations and best practice and to help ensure a consistent approach in dealing with regulators. The team focuses on Regulatory Compliance, Regulatory Liaison, Policy Development and Governance.
Risk Committees – full administration of the Electronic Trading Committees and, as relevant, other EMEA Risk Committees. Activities include agreeing agendas, requesting materials, reviewing submissions, compiling meeting packs, attending meetings, writing minutes, updating trackers and maintaining Terms of Reference
Risk management frameworks – including reviewing governance framework, as well as designing, writing and reviewing policies and procedures relating to market risk and electronic trading
Regulatory landscape – including managing regulatory submissions relating to market risk and electronic trading, providing assurance of compliance with new regulatory requirements, as well as providing input and support to the wider team on regulatory impact assessments and analysis of implications for Risk Management
Drive cross-risk external reporting as it pertains to the risk management framework
Provide support to the wider team on committee administration and other regulatory matters.
Skills Required / Preferred:
Prior experience in risk management or other risk role within a wholesale financial services environment, ideally in a market risk function;
Preferably coming from Risk Governance or Controls background
Good understanding of banking regulation and regulatory initiatives, especially relating to risk management;
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to produce concise and effective presentations;
Confidence to take ideas forward and to challenge others, where appropriate;
Very strong organization skills with flexible approach and ability to plan schedules, multitask, and prioritise; ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
Ability to work in a small team environment, building and maintain a network of contacts and coordinating with a large number of stakeholders.
