The Occupational & Life Skills (OLS) at Bellevue College is an accredited associate degree program for adults with learning disabilities. In our uniquely supportive program, students learn to identify and develop a career pathway, gain marketable, workplace-readiness skills, and complete an internship with a local business. Most students are gainfully employed within three months after graduation. OLS students grow interpersonal skills and take steps toward greater independence. The confidence they gain at OLS, both onsite and in the community, help students self-advocate and mature so they can become productive community members. They build life-long friendships, and gain marketable, workplace-ready skills.
In this vibrant community, the Internship Program Manager will apply their expert workforce knowledge creating partnerships with local businesses as providers of internships for OLS students. Within the robust framework of the ART of OLS, this position will work with interns directly in the workplace and in the classroom. Data driven decision making will be key when providing strategic direction and facilitating individual and the program advancement. The current number of interns each year ranges from 16-21 students with supervision of 1-2 part-time internship coaches. Student empowerment and self-determination are both key for student success. Most interns will become independent during their internship and may receive an employment offer. This position will report to the Associate Dean and be part of the OLS leadership team. This position will include Bellevue College leadership responsibilities. ESSENTIALS FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL DUTIES
Facilitate career pathway development as related to the ART of OLS for graduating students during their final year and 3rd year students
Maintain knowledge of local workforce needs and consequently advice students as they develop their careers
Suggest curriculum enhancements as required by market needs or business experience
Assistance with employment opportunities for OLS students and alumni
Provide advocacy support regarding workplace situations and disabilities
Networking, marketing, identification of potential placement opportunities; building and maintaining business relationships, and securing positions for students as guided by their desired career path.
Recruit and develop relationships with community businesses that lead to internships sites, volunteer sites, and program partners; Create marketing collateral in conjunction with marketing specialist for OLS partnership recruitment
Coach OLS students in preparation for their internship, prepare professional resumes and facilitate interviews
Facilitate and support the onboarding process for both the businesses and the students
Train and supervise internship coaches providing learning opportunities, program vision and direction and intervention as needed
Facilitate employment opportunities with internship sites after internship period
Manage student performance
Keep updated on L&I, HR Regulations and Insurance requirements regarding internship programs
Co-teach soft skills with instructor as related to internship performance during 6 month internship and assist with curriculum updates as related labor market needs and employment best practices
Develop, and maintain a collaborative relationship with Bellevue College entities, community, government agencies, and educational entities
Represent OLS and Bellevue College in a professional manner at networking events and when developing new business relations
Lead hiring efforts for new internship coaches in collaboration with the Associate Dean
Create the vision and goals for the OLS Internship Program within the Art of OLS framework
Performs related duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree from accredited institution
Three (3) years' experience working with individuals with disabilities and commitment to diversity and inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce.
1-2 years supervision experience
Experience with job development, task analysis, workplace accommodations, and providing supports
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with diverse group students, staffs, businesses and community in general
Effective interpersonal skills and listening skills
Ability to drive to internship sites on a daily basis
Master's Degree from accredited institution in related field (such as Business Administration, Human Resources or Human Services)
Intermediate to advanced skill level in computer software including, Word, Excel, Outlook, and all MS Office Suite-all versions
This position is not eligible for relocation allowance.
