The New York Racing Association, Inc. ("NYRA") has retained Major, Lindsey & Africa on an exclusive basis to conduct a search for an Associate General Counsel, Corporate ("AGC") to be located in its corporate headquarters in Jamaica, New York. NYRA is an equal opportunity employer.
Position Overview: The AGC will work closely with the General Counsel on a variety of legal issues, including those related to transactions, intellectual property, commercial agreements, corporate governance documents, and as appropriate, interaction with NYRA's regulators. The AGC may serve as the Assistant Corporate Secretary and will be responsible for the preparation for Board and Committee meetings and minutes. Additionally, the AGC will play a role in handling a broad range of complex legal issues that arise in the day-to-day administration of NYRA's business. Foundational training as a general corporate attorney from a well-known law firm is required, and previous in-house experience is strongly preferred.
Firm Overview: Founded in 1955, and franchised through 2033 to run thoroughbred horse racing at New York's three major race tracks (Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course), NYRA boasts a lineage that stretches back almost 150 years. NYRA is the largest thoroughbred horse racing organization in the country and NYRA race tracks are the cornerstone of the state's thoroughbred business, which contributes more than $2 billion annually to New York State's urban, suburban and rural economy.
Experience: Approximately 7-10 years of relevant legal experience including foundational training as a general corporate attorney from a well-known law firm. Previous in-house experience is strongly preferred. Must possess superior interpersonal skills, be highly confident, intellectually curious, business savvy and a generalist with substantive knowledge and experience with commercial matters.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
