Collaborating with the Board of Directors, the management team andstaff, this executive is responsible for achieving the overall goals andobjectives included in the strategic plan, maintaining the credit union'sfinancial health and stability and for ensuring conformance with applicableState and Federal laws. The President will oversee and direct the day-to-dayoperations as well as the ability to grow the credit union and achieve themission, vision and values of the credit union. The ideal candidate will havethe vision, leadership and communication skills to help the credit unionprosper.
TheCredit Union President will require considerable degree of initiative,judgment, and discretion when handling members' accounts, processing applicabletransactions, and ensures consistent application of rules and policies wheninteracting with members, agencies, and other parties as necessary.
About the Work Unit:
VUCUis a not-for-profit cooperative organization established in 1959 to promotesaving, provide financial services and serve as a source of credit at areasonable rate of interest. The Credit Union is member-owned,member-operated and democratically governed. Credit Union membership is open toall full-time and regular part-time Vanderbilt University employees; familymembers and all employees of Vanderbilt affiliated organizations. VUCU is an independent entity and it's employees are‘leased’ from Vanderbilt and therefore receive all benefits offered toVanderbilt University employees.
TheVUCU President will be responsible for overseeing 7-9 employees; directing,motivating and developing a competent, high performing staff to assure maximumefficiency in the daily credit union operations and effective member relations.
Key Functions andResponsibilities:
The new President of Vanderbilt Credit Union is expected to have a strong emphasis on growth, expanding the reach within the Vanderbilt community and increasing awareness for the opportunities the credit union creates for Vanderbilt faculty and students.
Directs, motivates and develops a competent, high performing staff to assure maximum efficiency in the daily credit union operations and effective member relations.
Prepare reports for the board of directors on the business affairs and financial condition of the credit union
Develops and implements a strategic plan including goal setting through action planning
Manage the day-to-day activities of the credit union and establish office, operation, lending, collections and human resources procedures to use staff and facilities efficiently'
Oversee the adequacy and soundness of the credit union's financial structure
Review operating results of the organization, compare them to established objectives and take steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results
Supports ongoing development of a positive environment and culture that allows the credit union to fulfill our mission
Responsible for the hiring, compensation and termination of credit union staff
Represent the credit union with members, the financial community and the public
Evaluate performance of executives for compliance with established policies and objectives of the credit union and contributions in attaining objectives
This position does have supervisory responsibility over all employed by VUCU; this position reports administratively and functionally to the VUCU Board of Directors.
Bachelor's degree with seven to ten years of senior management experience in a financial institution overseeing other employees is required.
Experience and Skills:
Excellent understanding of both for-profit and non-profit accounting and business models.
Strong knowledge of macroeconomic conditions, and the key financial instruments in the social finance, impact investing, and philanthropic fields.
Strong technical understanding of banking terms, commercial lending, debt/equity structures, credit, underwriting, loan operations, portfolio management, and investment programs.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, clients and prospects, and strategic partners. Ability to communicate complex subject matter in easily understood terms.
Work well under pressure, demonstrating a culture of accountability in meeting goals.
Strong leader, mentor, and facilitator who thrives in a team-oriented collaborative atmosphere.
5+ years of senior management experience in credit union is preferred.
