The Senior Director is the administrative leader of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center\u2019s Global Oncology Program in Seattle and oversees the operations of its non-profit research center in Kampala, Uganda, the Hutchinson Centre Research Institute of Uganda (\u201cHCRI-Uganda\u201d).
Leading an international administrative team of approximately 25 employees, the Senior Director will oversee the administration, finance, and operations staff and activities of the Global Oncology Program and work with the Program Head and Deputy Program Head to align these efforts with laboratory, clinical, and population science research operations. S/he will work with senior leadership across Fred Hutch to enhance the international operations of GO to ensure the future success of the program. The Senior Director will also provide administrative support to the President of the Board of the HCRI-Uganda and oversee the operations of the 25,000 square foot UCI-Fred Hutch Cancer Centre in Kampala, Uganda.
The Senior Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Research Administration, with a dotted line to the Global Oncology Program Head. The Senior Director is responsible for four major functions: 1) Directing administration and operations of the GO program in Seattle and the HCRI-Uganda, in collaboration with Center, Program, and Division leadership; 2) Overseeing the financial management activities of the GO Program; 3) Providing management and administrative expertise to support the GO Program\u2019s cross-divisional scientific research strategy for GO faculty and other Fred Hutch faculty interested in participating in GO research, and 4) Providing management and administrative support for developing GO research initiatives.
In consultation with the Director\u2019s office and in support of the scientific priorities of the GO Program Head and Deputy Head, the Senior Director will coordinate with and support Fred Hutch Communications and Marketing, Philanthropy, and Business Development and Strategy offices in their efforts to advance the mission, impact, and visibility of the GO Program.
The Senior Director will play a key role in facilitating and supporting the program\u2019s relationship with the Uganda Cancer Institute, maintaining a strong and productive relationship with its Executive Director and Deputy Director. The Senior Director will also facilitate and support the strategic decision-making bodies of the UCI \u2013 Fred Hutch Collaboration, including the Executive Committee and the UCI-Fred Hutch Council. The role also supports productive relationships with Ugandan and US government leaders to advance support for Fred Hutch\u2019s research activities.
Note: This is a Seattle-based position with regular travel to international research sites and partner institutions, including to Kampala, Uganda.
At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, teams of world-renowned scientists and humanitarians work together to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.
