The Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (Holden Center) is responsible for creating, fostering, and supporting leadership and community engagement opportunities for all students at the University of Oregon. The Holden Center strives to serve as a model, activator, and collaborator with Student Life staff, student groups, and other members of the university community in the development of curricular and co-curricular opportunities rooted in leadership development and community engagement that assure the integration of academic and student life.
Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students for Leadership & Engagement, the Director of Holden Center for Leadership & Community Engagement provides strategic direction and vision for the Holden Center and oversees the administration of co-curricular leadership programs, experiences, and services that will assist UO students in becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
The Director collaborates with a wide-ranging set of colleagues, campus, and community partners on matters related to student leadership, community engagement, and student success.
The Director maintains oversight of the annual budget, and leads the unit in strategic planning efforts, including the development and articulation of annual departmental goals, assessment, and program evaluation.
The Director guides, directs, communicates, interprets and implements University policies and procedures and fosters the success of the Student Life strategic plan by serving as a leader within the Division.
The Director serves as a key resource to students and their families, faculty, staff, and alumni regarding services and other resources which support students’ leadership and community engagement development.
Minimum Requirements • Masters degree. • Five years of professional experience in an institution of higher education preferably in leadership development or community engagement programs. • Demonstrated familiarity with and understanding of national trends, and scholarship of student leadership development or community engagement. • Two years of experience in supervising full-time professional staff. • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain partnerships and collaborative relationships with various campus and community constituencies.
Professional Competencies • Experience in personnel management; including supervision of full-time professional staff, including employee development and evaluation. • Experience with fiscal oversight of complex budgets; including oversight of budget preparation and resource allocation. • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan strategically. • Demonstrated leadership skills, including evidence of ability to make important and high-profile decisions. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrated cultural competency and success working in a multicultural environment.
Preferred Qualifications • Master’s degree in leadership, organizational development, higher education administration, or a related field. • Additional work experience in related Student Life units, such as, fraternity and sorority life, residential life, recreation or advising programs. • Experience working with a wide range of student groups and organizations, including underrepresented students, students with marginalized identities, student government organizations, and fraternities/sororities. • Evaluation and assessment skills.
