The Protective Services Officer (PSO) augments the UC Davis Police Department's efforts for the enforcement of all state and federal laws, the regulations of the University of California and UC Davis Medical Center security related policies and procedures. PSO's are responsible for promoting a safe healthcare environment by serving as a deterrent to criminal activity or behavior that violates policy and/or the law. In general, PSO's will be primarily assigned to the UC Davis Medical Center, but may be assigned to other facilities within the health system dependent on organizational need. When performing security-related duties, PSO's typical duties include maintaining vigilance, conducting rounds, providing escorts, assuming fixed posts, opening and securing entryways and exits, protecting staff from verbal and physical aggression, conflict resolution and other duties as assigned. PSO security and safety responsibilities extend to all medical facilities owned and/or operated by the UC Davis Health System. Individual assignments or responsibilities may be dependent on the activity, calls for service, identified issues that require a security-based resolution, identified need for security assistance or at the direction of the Director, Public Safety & Security or his/her designee. PSO's shall prepare reports documenting their response to calls for service, in support of UC Davis Police Department documentation when necessary and shall complete a daily activity report. This position receives direct daily supervision through a PSO Supervisor who reports to the Management in charge of the Program. Specific tasks are routine and assigned by a higher authority. This position performs tasks assigned by the supervisor. Typically, completed work and decisions made are not reviewed when performed within established policy and procedures of the unit. Work and decisions are subject to review and supervisory approval when not covered by policy, procedures or established guidelines.REQUIRED -Minimum one (1) year experience working in the security field, law enforcement or military. -Current California Guard Card. -Clean, valid California Driver's License. -Must have a High school diploma, GED, or equivalency. -Demonstrated proficiency in the exercise of defensive tactics. -Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. -Excellent oral and verbal communication skills to convey clear and concise information to the general public, staff, and students. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS - Must be able to roll and lift 40 lb. security signs 10-20 ft. - Must be able to sit, stand, and walk long periods of time in an environment dealing with sick, injured, hostile patients and visitors and in inclement weather conditions. - Must be able to work overtime when requested. - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
