Essential Job Duties:
The successful candidate selected for the position of 4-H Extension Agent will provide leadership for the total 4-H Youth program and will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating programs for youth ages 5-19.
This position will be responsible for working with adult volunteers to engage youth in positive, informal life-skill development activities. A variety of educational methods such as organized 4-H clubs, school enrichment, social media and other methods may be used.
Evaluation of the needs and interests of youth ages 5 – 19 in Carteret County will be conducted and implementation of relevant programs will be expected.
Responsibilities will include supervision and recruitment of program staff, training and management of volunteer staff, and evaluating and reporting impacts of program efforts.
The person in this position will work with community agencies and groups to design, implement and evaluate community-based educational programs based on the needs of the community.
This position will recruit, evaluate, train and coordinate adult and youth volunteers.
Other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, establishing and maintaining 4-H clubs within Carteret County, managing clubs and special interest programs and identifying resources to assist in conducting 4-H and youth programs.
Evaluating and reporting impacts of program efforts.
Must be able to successfully utilize the expertise of and work closely with advisory groups, community leaders, and public officials to identify needs and assist in developing educational programs based on critical issues.
Will be responsible for maintaining open lines of communication with 4-Hers, volunteers, leaders and general public through emails, social media, mailings and phone calls.
One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in child or youth development or related field, – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in child or youth development or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in child or youth development or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the County Extension Agent’s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The County Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The County Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of county Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The County Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.
A Bachelor's degree in child or youth development, family and consumer sciences, or a related discipline is required.
The applicant must be self-directed and possess a strong work ethic.
The individual must recognize the importance of teamwork and the ability to work with diverse audiences.
Skills in leadership, communication, public relations, and program planning and implementation are required.
Volunteer recruitment and development experience as well as program development skills will be important.
A related Master's degree is preferred.

Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation are required and must be maintained.
