Assistant Dean of Communications, Engagement and Impact 10422
The John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Communications, Engagement and Impact. The Assistant Dean will be part of the Dean's leadership group and report directly to the Dean. This position will enhance the external reach of the College by creating and supporting a cohesive strategy that aligns with the overall goals of the College.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Lead the development of a comprehensive and evolving strategic communications and marketing plan that supports the vision, image and identity of the college. This will include a specific plan to incorporate and produce promotion materials for the entire college in an efficient and effective manner as well as manage the distribution and deployment of those materials strategically.
Facilitate the college's engagement and communications internally across all units in the college as well as externally among multiple audiences, including alumni, donors, potential students, and other stakeholders through appropriate messaging.
Lead the coordination of efforts of all Assistant Deans in the College to develop, implement and execute a communication and marketing strategy focusing on innovative campaigns in support of organization, brand and marketing initiatives through multiple channels (internal and external).
Oversee the implementation of plans to advance and promote the college's achievements and priorities through a variety of platforms including social media, the press, web presence, and print publications.
Coordinate and collaborate with the Center for Career Development, the Development Office and the Dean's office activities to develop a strong pipeline of corporate engagements for the benefit of the academic/research/outreach efforts of the college. Focus on creating robust bridges with industry partners to support research, placement and paid engagements leveraging the college's expertise.
Establish meaningful benchmarks and metrics to determine effectiveness of tactics, and regularly assess tactics and make adjustments for improvement.
Prepare annual budget and manage budgetary expenses associated with marketing and programmatic activities.
Report regularly on the success of internal and external communication efforts including analytics, survey results, and other quantifiable and subjective measurements of effectiveness.
Develop processes to ensure analysis of current publications and communications occurs, while identifying and researching key audiences about perceptions, attitudes, demographics.
Travel occasionally to represent the Chambers College, both domestically and internationally, at various corporate engagements including participation in international relations missions for the University and College.
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Assignment Length: 12-month position
A Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred
Five (5) years of experience involving:
Professional business/industry experience including communications, recruiting, corporate relations, or another related area
Experience in training and development, performance management, or supporting multiple business units in a human resources capacity in the corporate setting or direct career services professional experience in a university setting
Experience with messaging and coordinating communications across different units within an organization as well as connecting strategic messages with outside constituencies
An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may also be considered
Ability and interest to be innovative, strategic, and thoughtful about multiple constituents and projects
Knowledge of all levels of business career fields, job functions, and industries
Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with multiple diverse professional constituencies
Flawless attention to detail and accuracy
Proven self-starter with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Ability to travel both domestically and internationally to represent the College.
Ability to navigate the corporate structure of fortune 500 companies and larger organizations, and to interface with corporate executives providing superior professional representation of the college
Strong oral and written communication skills, including skill in large group presentations
Strong ability to function in a computerized environment, including Mountaineer Trak, spreadsheets, word processing, database management, internet and email
Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and positive attitude during lengthy periods of high volume, intensive work
Knowledge of current trends in marketing in higher education and is fit with Fortune 500 companies/non-profit organizations and government (State and Federal) agencies
Outstanding organizational and project management skills with extensive experience managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously.
Valid driver's license
Valid passport or equivalent for occasional international travel
