Major Work Characteristics :
Responsible for the University’s compliance with equal opportunity laws and regulations, both state and federal, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities (ADA), Section 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and ORC 4112. Plans, organizes, directs, and provides leadership in equal employment, affirmative action and associated regulatory compliance matters. Ensures compliance with anti-discrimination and harassment laws and regulations, both state and federal, in the employment and higher education setting. Acts as the Coordinator for Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Works with the Title IX Director to conduct investigations, respond to reports and complaints, monitor outcomes, identify and address any patterns and coordinate the University's policies and procedures relating to sex discrimination, including sexual misconduct. Monitors employment activities to ensure compliance with state, and federal civil rights laws and regulations; generates, analyzes, develops, and implements comprehensive affirmative action plans. Investigates discrimination and harassment complaints filed by, or against, faculty, staff, and students. Formulates and presents training in areas of affirmative action and equal opportunity and other regulatory compliance matters.
Develops, drafts, and reviews university policies to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and other university policies. Provides assistance to university departments in developing a consistent and coherent uniform set of board of trustees' policies.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration or other appropriate discipline; plus minimum of five (5) years of professional experience investigating harassment and discrimination complaints, preparing and assessing institutional affirmative action plans, conducting presentations or training programs, and a demonstrated commitment to issues of equality, opportunity and diversity.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal and counseling skills; knowledge of federal and state compliance agencies and procedures; knowledge of federal and Ohio EEO, affirmative action, ADA and Title IX laws and regulations; ability to understand and apply legal principles relating to unlawful harassment and discrimination; ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information; knowledge of University organization and governance and ability to establish rapport with all segments from senior administrators to students.
Higher education experience; experience with a shared governance model of decision making; experience writing job postings/advertisements; Masters or other advanced degree in Human Resources; Juris Doctorate.
