The National Potato Council (NPC) is the leading advocate for the economic well-being of U.S. potato growers on federal legislative, regulatory, environmental, and trade issues. Founded in 1946 by Irish potato growers from all growing regions, NPC is a grassroots organization that maintains active and direct links to the potato grower community and depends on that community for input and support. NPC also functions as an industry problem solver and convener of the various growing regions to address industry issues that may not have a direct public policy component. Key issues include: international trade, taxes, transportation, research funding, environment, ag labor, availability of ag technology, nutrition and food safety.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
The Senior Manager of Industry Relations is responsible for programs and activities related to the development and maintenance of relationships with potato industry members and allied industry partners. This position is a member of the Executive Management Team for the Potato Expo, the largest annual potato industry conference and trade show in North America. This position is based full-time in lovely downtown Washington, DC three blocks from the McPherson Square Metro station. The Senior Manager reports to the Executive Vice President/CEO and works directly with the EVP and Vice President of Programs and Member Relations as a part of the Potato Expo Management Team. The position requires approximately 20 – 25% travel each year as this role requires speaking and connecting to all member states during each year.
The successful candidate will possess:
3 to 5 years with some agriculture background preferred but not required
Bachelor’s Degree, preferable in agriculture or business administration
2- 3 years of experience working at a trade association.
5 - 8 years of experience in working with sponsorship and exhibit sales and marketing.
Superior writing, editing and presentation skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong customer service, project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
Proficiency with social media platforms and MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Strong experience in Business Development along with Sales
While the successful candidate is not required to have a background in the agriculture or agriculture lobbying, he or she must have the aptitude, interest, and commitment to becoming skilled in the agriculture field.
WHAT ARE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE
Core responsibilities include:
Develop strategies and tactics to maximize the participation of the potato industry and industry partners as attendees, sponsors and exhibitors.
Act as a sales lead and key customer liaison on assigned exhibitions and meetings. Responsible for managing sales targets and responsibilities related to maximizing sales pre-show, on-site and post-show.
Works directly with the potato industry and industry partners to increase support for and participation in NPC organizational programs, meetings and membership.
Works closely with the Public Policy team to support industry public policy objectives and to support successful relationships with industry partners on issues of common interest.
Will be part of a close-knit team that values collaboration.
Develop strong relationships with all allied industry partners and stakeholders, and has initiated short- and long-term strategies to grow association revenue.
Developing financial goals and marketing plan for Potato Expo and other NPC meetings.
Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of key public policy issues impacting the potato industry and allied industry partners.
