This position will review and confirm accuracy of payroll-related general ledger accounts, calculate and verify terminated employee payouts, and validate all active and terminated employee overpayment amounts. Researches and advises payroll staff concerning the accounting treatment of complex transactions. May perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external or internal auditors if requested. This position will review and evaluate internal payroll processing reports and utilize the information to complete audit of payroll in-progress. The position will verify accuracy of all manual payments and complete reconciliation of year-to-date tax withholdings after each semi-monthly payroll processing. This position will research employee overpayments and prepare overpayment calculation worksheets. Monitor overpayment trends to prevent and reduce total number of overpayments. This position will act as backup for the International Tax Specialist, assessing and applying special tax withholding requirements for international faculty, staff and students. This position will also manage the longevity payment process to ensure accurate payments to employees in compliance with state policy. This position may perform various ad hoc analysis and other duties as assigned by the Payroll Director or Assistant Payroll Director.

Organizational Unit Overview:
The Division of Administration and Finance is responsible for all financial and administrative activities of East Carolina University and its related foundations. The Division consists of Financial Services, Campus Operations, Human Resources, Enterprise Risk Management, Business Services, Information Technology and Computing Services, and Parking and Transportation . The Division is led by the Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance. The Vice Chancellor is responsible for the oversight of the policies, personnel, budgets, and administrative activities of all operations at East Carolina University and its related foundations. The Division is responsible for more than $675 million of activities within the University and its related foundations. Within the Division, Financial Services is responsible for all budget and financial activities of East Carolina University and it related foundations. Financial Services' mission is to provide for the financial needs of the University and its related foundations in a customer-oriented, friendly environment while assuring the proper stewardship of all fiscal resources.
Within the Financial Services unit, the Payroll Office is responsible for processing all payroll activity for the University and is responsible for ensuring that the University is in full compliance with the IRS and INS rules and regulations governing all payments to non-resident aliens. A high level of knowledge and accuracy is demanded in the processing of payrolls to satisfy customer demands and to maintain compliance with the extensive and complex regulations and policies of the Federal and State government and University. The office successfully pays all employees through the use of two highly automated and complex systems Banner HR and Banner Finance as well as integrated time and attendance systems including Kronos Time and Attendance. The Payroll Office personnel work very closely with the Human Resource office personnel, the vice Chancellors of Academic Affairs and Health Affairs EPA personnel; personnel in Grants and Contracts and personnel within the Budget Office to ensure employee assignments have been entered correctly into the Human Resource System. Excellent customer service is also demanded working directly with University employees.
