The Major Gift Officer will be an innovative development professional responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and securing major individual gifts to Spalding University as part of the Office of Advancement team. This position will report directly to the Chief Advancement Officer. This individual will have experience building long-term relationships with alumni, donors and prospects, and a proven track record in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts. As a member of the Advancement team, this person will work to meet the University’s short and long-term fundraising goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop both long- and short-term strategic fundraising and constituent relations plans for major individual gifts
Work with the development staff to identify and plan the cultivation of donors to make a minimum of 4 face-to-face visits to major individual gift donors and/or prospect per week.
Provide the Chief Advancement Officer with appropriate plans of action, implementation, evaluation, and progress reports of these major individual gift solicitation and constituent relations plans
Solicit support from the University from individuals in pursuit of current, endowment, capital, and strategic initiative objectives.
Recommend and implement University policy and procedures related to major individual gift development for capital campaigns and/or special mini-campaigns as authorized by the President and the Board of Trustees

Baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience
Successful development experience required, preferably within a college or university setting, with a proven track record of cultivating and securing five-figure gifts and above
Manage relationships with approximately 75 to 100 prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these very important alumnae and friends of the college.
Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse constituent groups, both within and outside the University
Superb written and oral communication skills
Excellent leadership and management skills and the capacity to supervise, lead and inspire
A commitment to full and visible participation in the formal and informal life of the campus community
Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other advancement staff, and other College representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for college-wide priorities.
Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
