ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY, LAW, AND JUSTICE Full-time, academic year, tenure track position with an appointment in the Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences (NRES) Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, CA. Starting date is September 16, 2019. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will teach courses that prepare students for a broad range of careers in environmental policy, law, natural resource management, and agriculture. Based on the successful candidate's areas of expertise, there is opportunity to develop new courses associated with this position. Research and teaching interests should include contemporary issues in the diverse field of environmental policy, law, and justice. Some potential areas of scholarship may include: ? Environmental law and policy ? Water law and policy ? Agricultural law and policy ? Climate change policy ? Coastal resources law and policy ? Indigenous peoples natural resource law and policy ? Environmental and social justice
Given the interdisciplinary nature of this position, he/she will collaborate with other Colleges/Departments at the university.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate is expected to link research and practice, and to participate in scholarly activities (e.g., research, publishing, grant writing) as part of his or her professional development and contribution to the University's mission. These activities must address societal needs and challenges that confront government, the private sector, scientists, and non-profit organizations.
Service to the department and university and to local, state, and national professional organizations is expected. Departmental and university service may include committee assignments, supporting student-club activities, enhancing student enrollment, and cultivating career opportunities for our students/graduates.
Faculty are encouraged to take advantage of Swanton Pacific Ranch, a 3,800-acre forest, range, and farming operation located in Santa Cruz County and managed by the College. The forested property is a Certified Demonstration Coastal Forest, as designated by the Forest Stewardship Council, and Swanton also houses the Coastal Resources Institute.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Ph.D. or juris doctor (J.D.) degree in environmental policy/law or related field by the starting date is required. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to be a productive team player and to interact well with peers, students, industry, government agencies, and the general public is essential. Must demonstrate commitment to diversity. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to initiate, complete, secure external funding, and publish research.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with a record of excellence in teaching and research, as well as the ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Particular expertise and experience is desired across multiple environmental law and policy specializations including water, agriculture, and land management. Experience with the legislative or regulatory process in California and/or Washington DC is highly desirable as is experience working for and/or with environmental and/or social justice NGOs.
