Ames Laboratory is seeking applicants for an Accountant II. Ames Laboratory is a Department of Energy (DOE) funded national laboratory operated through a contractual agreement with Iowa State University.
Under general supervision, the Accountant will perform professional accounting functions including development and preparation of specialized accounting reports and financial statements, review and analysis of accounting transactions, and collection of data and preparation of accounting schedules. Performs financial management special assignments to support overall functions of the Ames Laboratory Accounting Office.
The successful candidate will possess strong attention to detail and above average analytical and mathematical skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to interact with a diverse constituency of individuals are necessary for success in this position. This position will interact with individuals both within and external to the University campus. The ability to analyze and solve problems, and to develop new or improve existing procedures will be an important component of this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Additional years of experience.
Experience must be in accounting and include documented knowledge of/experience with US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Demonstrated computer skills including software for data management, communication (including word processing) and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office Suite highly preferred).
Experience with Deltek-CostPoint or other ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software
Experience which demonstrates analysis of financial data and preparation of reports
Experience with Iowa State University's (or similar) accounting procedures, processes, and requirements.
Experience with federal government (DOE or similar) policies and procedures
