The Associate Director of College Research Administration will provide pre- and post-award finance and administration support for the College of Social Science and Humanities (CSSH) four days per week and the School of Law (SOL) for one day per week. Reporting to the CSSH Associate Dean of Administration and Finance with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance at SOL and the Director of College Research Administration at CSSH, the Associate Director will organize and implement operational procedures relating to grant and proposal development and develop and maintain college-level sponsored research reporting in the CSSH Office of the Dean and School of Law Office of the Dean. The candidate will contribute to the overall strategic planning and creation of new policies and procedures necessary for the efficient operation of college-level grant administration.
The candidate will be responsible for a portfolio of grant-active faculty at CSSH and will be the main point of contact for all grant-active faculty at the School of Law. The candidate will advise and assist faculty with proposal preparation, including budget development, assisting with administrative portions of proposals, coordinating with Northeastern's Research Enterprise Services (NU-RES) and with CSSH and SOL business operations staff. The candidate will hold regular meetings with PIs to review, approve and process grant modifications, pre-award requests and no-cost extensions. The Associate Director will also develop, execute, and maintain post-award reporting dashboards for college administration including the Deans, Associate Deans as well as for individual PIs. This position will also work closely with the Associate Deans of Administration and Finance on college-level grant revenue and expense forecasting. Maintenance of appropriate documentation will be required for internal tracking of proposals submitted. The Associate Director will work closely with NU-RES on all matters pertaining to the pre-award and post-award policies and procedures in CSSH. The Associate Director will also meet regularly with the Director of College Research Administration and Associate Dean of Administration and Finance in CSSH as well as the Associate Dean of Administration and Finance at the School of Law to keep up to date with issues related to proposal submissions and other pre-award and post-award matters. The Associate Director will identify key areas of improvement in pre-award and post-award research administrative processes and procedures, develop creative solutions and implement them to further research initiatives within the colleges to provide a high level of customer service. CSSH and SOL are both colleges with growing numbers of faculty who are actively pursuing research funding. Each college is also growing its number of interdisciplinary appointments, which makes the administration of grants more complex. The diverse research interests of interdisciplinary hires means working with an increasing variety of agencies and foundations often presenting unique challenges in pre-award & post-award administration. Therefore, the ideal candidate will need to demonstrate an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of quality customer service to faculty, be able to work effectively across a complex organization and be comfortable with ambiguity in an evolving research administration environment.
Minimum of 5 years of finance or post-award grant administration experience required, preferably in an academic or research environment. Solid understanding of federal/University grant operations, rates and regulations along with knowledge of relevant government regulations and University accounting procedures preferred. Strong financial analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
