Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Financial Analyst.
In this role, the successful candidate as the Senior Financial Analyst for the School of Medicine (SOM) Finance Missions team is responsible for performing projects in the areas of financial & strategic planning, general financial analysis, and reporting that support the overall financial results and effectiveness of the NYU School of Medicine. The Senior Financial Analyst reports to the Senior Finance Manager of SOM Missions. Responsibilities will include: developing reporting packages, creating financial templates, analyzing department P&L statements, performing trend analysis & forecasting, completing high-level variance analysis, data visualization and mapping, presenting data in an easy-to-understand manner, as well as ad-hoc requests that may come from the Director of the SOM Missions team or Sr. Director of SOM Finance. Finally, the Senior Financial Analyst contributes energetically to an environment of effective financial reporting and analyses, time utilization & prioritization, compliance with regulations, and adoption of leading practices within NYUSOM and Finance. The Senior Financial Analyst may interact with Research and Education Mission leadership, Office of Chief of Staff, principal investigators, and department administrators.
Responsible for analyzing monthly Academic Department P&Ls by fund with aims of transparency and accountability for Department administration.
Provide analytical support for the management of the Research, Education, and/or Department Mission based on an in-depth understanding of key business drivers, issues, and risks.
Analyze financial performance and participate in forecasting activities.
Firm understanding of basic accounting principles as well as actual to budget variance analysis and problem-solving.
Review and research accounting transactions for Departmental and Mission funds.
Prepare reporting packages with detailed analysis based on specified requirements from leadership and summarize in a succinct and clear manner.
Illustrates large and complex workflows in a simple and clear manner utilizing Microsoft VISIO, PowerPoint, Prezzie or other software.
Assists in managing projects for the SOM Missions team and outside stakeholders for both long-term and short-term projects that include: a. Developing and maintaining project plans b. Working with multiple data formats and sources understanding key issues c. Cooperating with multiple stakeholders to coordinate and monitor efforts d. Problem solving with limited data e. Preparing communication and status updates (excel, PowerPoint, word, Visio) of financial information that is clear, while maintaining supporting detail to be used when necessary
Support in Ad-Hoc projects as outlined by Senior Management.
Routine communication with the Senior Finance Manager for all financial analysis, issue escalation, project status, and any other deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a 1.1. Able to multi-task and manage various deliverables while adhering to deadlines. 2. Works well with others and is committed to team success. 3. Quick learner and adapts to changing responsibilities. 4. Demonstrated problem solver and self-starter. 5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 6. Proficient in MS Excel, MS Office software, Visio, and/or any other data visualization and project management tools. 7. Must have a Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance or related field. 8. Minimum of 5-7 yrs. related experience including project management 9. MBA Preferred but not required. 10. PMP or MPM certification Preferred but not required.
