The Payroll manager is responsible for the management of the Universityâ™s Payroll Office, serving all faculty, staff and students employed at Brown. The individual must coordinate and oversee the production of three distinct payrolls (weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly), and provide timely and accurate information to various federal and state government agencies and financial institutions. The individual must also have an understanding multi-state and multi-national payroll procedures.
The individual will be the subject matter expert of all payroll related matters, including Workday, the system that processes payroll. The incumbent will work collaboratively with Workday Operations, Human Resources, the Finance Division and other departments within the University on a variety of projects that impact payroll. Projects will include semi-annual Workday updates, new and changes to system integration, and other ad hoc projects.
Bachelorâ™s degree with a concentration in accounting, finance or business management, preferred. Equivalent experience/education will be considered for strong candidates. Requires a thorough understanding of the payroll field
Thorough working knowledge of payroll computing systems, including ability to analyze and detect errors. Experience with integrated systems such as Kronos, ADP, and Workday preferred.
At least 5-7 years of experience in a complex not-for-profit accounting environment, preferably in higher education.
Supervisory experience for a team of 3 or more.
Ability to work well in a team environment with participants from various fields including but not limited to: Human Resources, Employee Relations, Tax department, Accounting, Workday Operations, Computing and Information Services, and others within the Finance Division.
Strong management skills, coaching and providing feedback to a team of 3-4 individuals.
Excellent customer relation skills, dealing with individuals in person, through telephone and written correspondence.
Ability to work well under pressure, with good organizational skills in order to meet critical deadlines.
Ability to analyze processes and clearly document office procedures.
