JobDescription : The Role: Associate, Insurance Ratings Pacific
The Location: Melbourne The Team / The Business: You'll be part of the Financial Services Ratings team in the Pacific.
What's in it for you: The analyst will be responsible for surveillance and publishing of our credit ratings on a variety of mid- to upper-tier insurance companies based in Australia and New Zealand, and their related debt and hybrid issues. The role requires the incumbent to analyze pertinent financial and non-financial information and data necessary for rating determinations. The analyst will make recommendations to the rating committee, prepare material for ratings publications, and effectively communicate to clients regarding S&P Global Ratings methodology and procedures.
Working closely with Lead Analysts, a primary analyst will also have the opportunity to meet with issuers and a range of external parties such as investors, stock brokers, industry regulators and associations on analytical matters. Assistance with industry analysis and publishing associated industry rating outlooks and industry sector commentaries are also key aspects of the role.
Your Skills: Finance, commerce or accounting related degree, or insurance or actuarial tertiary studies would be preferable with at least 3-5 years' experience in the financial services industry. Insurance industry (or related), regulatory or credit rating experience would be an advantage. The role will require the person to have a real passion for analysis being able to enthusiastically undertake rigorous analytical work, including collating information into reasoned arguments and be proficient at writing analytical reports. Importantly, candidates must have a good understanding of financial markets and the business environment, and some understanding of S&P's analytical products and services. The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and the successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented, global, and multi-cultural environment. Finally, candidates must have the ability to analyze unique, non-routine analytical or business problems in a timely and insightful manner.

Analyzing information and data for determining ratings on insurance companies and their debt issues;
Making recommendations and presenting to rating committees;
Drafting press releases, company-specific reports, and industry commentaries in a fast-paced environment with publication deadlines;
Effectively communicating to clients S& P Global Ratings methodology and procedures;
Conduct effective monitoring of operating performance of rated companies, including reviews of public filings and private information supplied by issuers, and participation in client meetings;
Meeting with issuers and investors on analytical matters and assisting in resolving clients' analytical needs; and
Contributing to S & P Global Ratings global and regional analytical sectoral forums, and authoring related commentaries
What we're looking for:
Bachelor's degree. Business or actuarial background, while an advanced degree or CFA is a plus
Minimum three years of experience in an analytical position. Working experience in the insurance industry is a plus
Good understanding of financial and capital markets, business environments, and relevant insurance regulations in Australia
Strong financial statement analysis skills and accounting knowledge
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
A demonstrated ability to give effective presentations to senior executives
A highly motivated team player who can work autonomously in a global, multi-cultural and fast pace environment
Ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and be proficient at writing analytical reports in English
Candidates with less experience can be considered as Rating Analyst
