The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry is seeking to hire a Certified Dental Assistant II for the Orthodontics Department.
The School of Dentistry Orthodontics Department is seeking aCertified Dental Assistant II to serve the needs of students, residents, faculty, patients, and their families and other staff. This position is essential to our core instructional and service missions. The Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Clinic has on average 265 patient visits per week. This Dental Assistant II communicates with the patients and their parents or other family members about patient care and educational matters, assists and facilitates procedures associated with patient care under the guidance of 17 full- and part-time faculty and 9 residents, maintains the availability of clinic supplies and equipment, plus performs ad hoc assigned duties as directed by the Supervisor, Clinic Director, Pre-doctoral and Advanced Education Program Directors, and Department Chair.
Provides chair-side assistance to dentists in teaching dental students to complete auxiliary utilization and acts as a team leader; instructs other dental assistants and auxiliaries in various methods of teaching auxiliary utilization. Duties include but are not limited to:
Understands how tasks/activities relate to others on the team and how the team integrates with other related, similar teams
Organizes and completes structured assignments according to priorities
Completes administrative work within the Heath Services function (i.e. schedules appointments/ work assignments, takes payments, sets up and files patient records)
Provides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures
Evaluates and selects solutions from established options/procedures
Impacts own team through the quality of the services or information provided
Communicates with others through the regular exchange of information, ranging from routine to complex
A High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
Certification by the Certifying Board of the American Dental Assistant's Association is necessary.
Ability to instruct dental students in preparing them to effectively work with a dental assistant in complete auxiliary utilization is necessary.
Good health and high standard of personal hygiene is necessary.
