Duties and Responsibilities Teaching responsibilities will be in Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) courses to include but not limited to Nutritional Biochemistry I and II (FSHN 485 and 486) and a graduate course (FSHN 685) or according to departmental needs. Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Develop a rigorous, independent, externally funded research program related to nutritional biochemistry in health and disease commensurate with the candidate's interests and area of expertise. Research areas of interest can include obesity, diet and cancer, clinical nutrition, nutrigenetics, metabolomics, epigenetics, microbiomics, or other areas of interest to the faculty member. Collaborative research within the Department, with other departments within CTAHR, the University of Hawaii and other partnering institutions is strongly encouraged. Provide service to the department, college, university, and professional community.
Minimum Qualifications Doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing in Nutrition, Biochemistry/Metabolism or related field. Demonstrated ability as a teacher. Demonstrated scholarly achievement. Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
Desirable Qualifications Experience in teaching nutritional biochemistry or closely related courses. Demonstrated ability to teach nutritional biochemistry and metabolism in relation to health and disease at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Demonstrated ability to develop an extramurally-funded, basic science research program related to nutritional biochemistry in health and disease. Excellent written, verbal, and online communication skills. Two (2) years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent. Strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Successful record of grantsmanship. Demonstrated ability as a student mentor.
