The Assistant Director of Project Portfolio Governance is responsible for leading the NYU IT Governance Office and all related strategic and programmatic activities. Primary responsibilities include: - Developing, implementing and maintaining project portfolio governance practices, frameworks and tools that deliver the greatest value to NYU - Guiding the development of multi-year strategic technology roadmaps - Helping the organization evaluate and prioritize IT investments - Monitoring and reviewing projects and project portfolios against strategic plans to ensure continuous alignment with the mission and goals of NYU - Establishing methodologies to track and report on project benefits and ROI - Overseeing resource management program and related activities to ensure optimal use of University resources - Developing and maintaining reports and dashboards that provide meaningful insights on project and portfolio health - Leading a team of high performing professionals, focused on service excellence and continuous improvement.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree, PMP certification or equivalent combination of certification and experience.
Preferred Education: Master's degree or equivalent experience. Process improvement/design certification (e.g., Six Sigma).
Required Experience: 5+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. Must include experience in project, program or portfolio management; experience working in Information Technology or PMO; and management/supervisory experience.
Preferred Experience: Experience leading project portfolio management (PPM) in a PMO environment. Higher Education experience a plus.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Proven success in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement project portfolio governance practices. Demonstrated ability to optimize the use of project planning tools and portfolio management tools. Track record of superior creativity and problem solving abilities. Proven collaborative, negotiation, and persuasion skills. Impeccable presentation, verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize data and information to provide a high-level view which is accessible to a range of audiences. Experience with and a level of comfort in working across departments, across cultures and with internal and external stakeholders. Aptitude for a fast paced, diverse work environment.
