The University of Maryland Marlene & Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) is seeking a Lab Research Supervisor to supervise the day-to-day operations and laboratory staff and provide administrative technical support to research activities.
The UMGCCC is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center which conducts innovative basic and clinical research that will impact the understanding and treatment of cancer around the world and seeks to provide state-of-art clinical care to cancer patients in Maryland and beyond. Private, foundation, and government sponsors provide funding to the Cancer Center to provide medical research treatment to cancer patients. The Accounting Analyst is necessary to ensure accurate accounts payable and receivable for these clinical trials.

Supervision of laboratory staff including training, scheduling, coordinating and delegating work, monitoring and evaluating performance. This will include a creation of a formal quality control process for key steps in the sample management process that are error prone.
Perform routine and advance laboratory research activities such as: collection and centrifugation of blood samples, complex multi-step processing procedures, such as vortexing or adding preservatives or reagents to samples during processing.
Administer day-to-day laboratory operations including ensuring quality control and safety compliance, overseeing laboratory maintenance and ordering of supplies.
Interact with clinical managers and study coordinators during protocol activation to ensure all lab requirements are known and planned for during trial activation.
Attend site initiation visits with sponsors to represent the laboratory and ensure lab concerns are expressed and remedied with the sponsor.
Interact with other labs on campus, such as flow cytometry and core labs during planning phase and throughout the study to ensure services needed are known and budgeted for during trial activation.
Interact with campus lab management (iLabs) as necessary to set up accounts for new study team members and deactivate accounts when staff depart.
Education: Bachelors in Biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Experience : Five (5) years in laboratory research.
Supervisory: One (1) year of direct supervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and monitoring the work of others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of human subjects research, the regulations and policies surrounding it.
Ability to represent the Cancer Center and its faculty in a professional manner.
Ability to keep patient information confidential, knowledge of HIPPA regulations.
Strong PC skills, ability to use web-based applications and programs.
