The qualified candidate for the Dean of Students position is a culturally competent team player, proven administrative ability, and significant classroom teaching experience. Experience collaborating with Resident Life leadership is preferred.

Reports to: Head of Upper School
The Dean of Students works with the Head of Upper School in carrying out the school’s academic and behavior programs. As a professional educator, the Dean of Students understands and responds to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population. The Dean of Students provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support the students’ academic achievement, as well as personal and social development. The Dean of Students works cooperatively with the Head of Upper School, counselors, Dean of Resident Life, nurse, staff, students and parents toward a positive school climate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept
Collaborate with the Director of Wellness to develop positive student behavior support systems and the development of intervention strategies
Coordinate, facilitate and implement student disciplinary intervention steps and processes with staff, working closely with the Head of Upper School and Director of Wellness
Coordinate implementation of parent involvement as well as school sponsored events
Collaborate with Director of Safety and Security to oversee school-wide emergency preparedness team meetings and implementation efforts
Collaborate with Head of Upper School and Dean of Resident Life on the planning and implementation of programs to integrate student life opportunities for boarding and day students
Collaborate with the Head of Upper School on the planning and implementation of the school’s Advisory program
Teach up to two courses per semester
Coordinate with Upper School Administrative Team around academic, social, and disciplinary concerns
Work with Assistant Dean of Students to oversee student leadership elections and programming
Oversee the planning and implementation of weekly Upper School student assemblies
Coordinate with Director of Wellness, Nurse Manager, Dean of Resident Life and Guidance Counselor around all medical, counseling, and Wellness needs for students
Communicate regularly with parents around individual student needs and provide general updates to all parents about Upper School programming and events
Bachelor’s Degree (advanced degree preferred)
Demonstrated cultural competence
